Where Are They Now: Doug Mientkiewicz

Who is he? Douglas Andrew "Doug" Mientkiewicz, a former Major League baseball player who spent time with the Twins, Red Sox, Mets, Royals, Yankees, Pirates and Dodgers.

That's Mientkiewicz, the 1st baseman in the background
of this photo, celebrating the first World Series
championship for Boston since 1918.
What is he known for/why do we care? Mientkiewicz was a member of the 2004 World-Series-winning Boston Red Sox that ended the team's championship drought of eighty-six years. Mientkiewicz (pronounced MINT-kay-VICH) was acquired mid-season, and proved to be a valuable member of the team. He also won a gold medal as a member of Team USA in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the first such medal that the United States had won in the sport.

Does he have any baseball cards? The newly-revamped COMC.com (formerly checkoutmycards.com) lists 190 baseball cards featuring Mientkiewicz. This number includes autographs, relic cards, serial #, base cards, and many different parallels of all kinds. The lowest-priced Mientkiewicz autograph on the site goes for $5.20, and can be found here if you are interested in purchasing it.

What's he doing now? Doug spent the 2012 season in the Dodgers organization as a coach, and earlier this off-season, he was named the manager of the Fort Myers Miracle, the Twins' A-Advanced affiliate & a team that Mientkiewicz played for as his career was beginning.

Contact information: Mientkiewicz played for quite a few teams during his career, so a lot of team collectors may need his signature for a project or a "team set". If you don't want to pay more than five dollars for his signature, you can write to him at the below address.

  1. I remember him from his Minnesota days, but I watch a lot more AL Central games then anything else.
