Where Are They Now: Katie Burkhart

Photo cred: Lori Thompson
Who is she? Katherine “Katie” Burkhart, a former pitcher, All-Star, and All-American for the Arizona State Sun Devils in college, as well as Team USA and the USSSA Pride, Tennessee Diamonds, and Carolina Diamonds in the pros.

What is she known for?  Burkhart is one of the best pitchers ever, without a doubt, and certainly the best to ever put on a Sun Devil uniform. She holds a large number of the school’s pitching records, as well as a few conference records. She was an All-American, and the #1 overall pick in the 2008 National Pro Fastpitch draft. In her rookie season in the NPF, she was voted Player of the Year. She also spent time as a member of Team USA and in Japan’s professional league.

You might not know... that Katie actually pitched ASU to their first win over bitter rival Arizona in four years; the Sun Devils had not beaten the Wildcats since 2002 when Katie threw ten dominant innings to beat the Wildcats on April 15, 2006.

What's she up to now?  Having retired from professional softball following the 2012 season, Katie now gives private lessons (I believe in the Nashville area), and she also just embarked on a pretty cool project to inspire and encourage people; it will include weekly Youtube videos, and you can follow this link to subscribe to her channel!
