Raven Chavanne Steps Into Justin's World

If somebody asked me to name the face of softball in this decade (the 2010s), a few names come to mind. A convincing case could be made for most of them, but one of the most obvious names that has to be on any such list is that of Thousand Oaks, California product Raven Chavanne.

After four years as the leadoff hitter and star third baseman for the Tennessee Lady Vols, Raven graduated following last season's championship-series run. A four-time All-American, she had led the Lady Vols to three WCWS appearances. One of the biggest names in the game, she was only a member of Team USA in 2013, where she *killed* it in international competition, and is certain to be on the team again this summer.

In case you're keeping track, that's four All-American awards; three WCWS appearances; and a member of Team USA. Then add three first-team Academic All-American nods; two Top 10 and one Top 3 finishes in the National Player of the Year race; and the thirteenth-overall selection in the 2013 National Pro Fastpitch draft.

You see what I'm saying? She was and still is one special player! So when she agreed to do an interview me, I was honestly shocked. What was supposed to be a ten-minute interview turned into a twenty-minute conversation. For a mega-star in the sport, she was one of the most humble, down-to-earth individuals I've ever had the pleasure to talk to.

After a bit of thought, I decided to post the conversation in it's entirety as an audio recording on my  Youtube channel. I couldn't find a good spot to cut it to create two parts, and honestly, it works better together as one piece. Listen to it all at once, listen to it in spurts. But trust me, you don't want to miss it! Just a sampling of the things Raven and I discussed:

- The toughest pitcher she ever faced
- How and why she chose Tennessee
- What it means to wear the red, white, and  blue
- Her plans for 2014
- Her Twitter handle (HINT: It's @RavenChavanne and you should definitely follow her!)

After you're done with this convo, be sure to stay tuned tomorrow when we'll be having some fun with Raven! You won't want to miss it!
