Weekend Roundup

News, Notes, and Milestones:

  • Ole Miss senior pitcher Carly Hummel threw the first perfect game in program history on Monday. She recorded twelve strikeouts in the seven-inning game.
  • This one happened before last week ended, but I missed it on Monday of last week. New Mexico State head coach Kathy Rodolph recorded her 500th career victory in a win over UNLV last Sunday.
  • The 2013-champion Oklahoma Sooners team will visit the White House today, along with eighteen other National-Championship-winning teams.
  • Former Florida State ace pitcher Monica Perry is headed to play pro ball in Italy this year.
  • Arkansas' Sierra Bronkey, who I named as the Razorbacks' unsung hero & a player to watch this year, will have season-ending shoulder surgery. A redshirt is possible.
  • UNC-Charlotte's Aimee Devos earned her 500th career victory on Saturday.
  • Former UCLA catcher Jen Schroeder Buchan (also the mastermind behind Jen Schro Catching), has been announced as the softball specialist for Dick's Sporting Goods. Jen really doesn't need much of an introduction to softball fans, but Dick's released an introductory video, linked here.
  • Villanova head coach Maria Dibernardi earned her 750th career win.
  • Florida Gator legend Jenny Gladding was inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame Friday night. Gladding spent just two years as a Gator, after transferring from Arizona.
  • North Texas' Tracey Kee earned her 700th career victory with a series-sweep over Middle Tennessee.
  • Congrats to the pitchers on this week's edition of the No-No Express! (If I missed somebody that belongs on this list, please bring it to my attention so I can give them the recognition they deserve):
    • Rainey Gaffin, Tennessee - (6.0 IP, 1 BB, 6 SO)
    • Ali Maloof, Southern New Hampshire - (D2) - (7.0 IP, 1 BB, 5 SO)
