Sources in Oxford, Mississippi are reporting that current McNeese State Head Coach Mike Smith will be named coach at the University of Mississippi.
Smith comes to Ole Miss after three successful seasons leading the Cowgirls to a 112-53 record and two straight Southland Conference Regular Season Championships in 2013 and 2014. Smith came to McNeese after serving eight seasons as the head coach at NAIA power California Baptist University. Smith's Lancer team competed in the NAIA World Series all eight seasons he was at the helm winning the 2009 National Championship and appearing in the final four another seven times. Cal Baptist won 60 or more games in each of his last four seasons there including a record 66 (to five losses) in 2011. The Lancers also won the conference title in each of Smith's eight seasons.
Before his post at Cal Baptist, Smith also served stints at head coach at UC Riverside and Biola University.
Smith's overall head coaching record in 15 seasons is 708-207.
A graduate of The Master's College, Smith also played professional baseball including a stint in the St. Louis Cardinals organization.
