Top 10 "Freshman of the Year" Finalists Announced

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association/NFCA announced yesterday the ten finalists for the inaugural Freshman of the Year award. The award is treated much like the Player of the Year award, with a list of twenty-five being narrowed down to ten, then three before a winner is announced just prior to the start of the Women's College World Series.

The ten finalists come from ten different institutions across the country and represent six different athletic conferences. The SEC is represented by three different players, while the Pac-12 and Big Ten each have two on the list. The Sun Belt, ACC, and Big West also are represented in the top ten.

Position-wise, the top ten includes four primarily pitchers and six position players. Another handy table is shown below & includes the ten finalists, along with their school and position.

The list will be trimmed to three on May 22, and the Freshman of the Year will be announced on May 27 just prior to the opening of the WCWS.
