Jake Schumann Leaves FIU, Accepts Ole Miss Assistant Coaching Position

It has been reported that FIU head coach Jake Schumann has resigned his position at the helm of the Panthers' program to join the coaching staff at Ole Miss.

Schumann just completed his third season as the Panthers' head coach with an 80-70 record at the school. FIU was bested in the first round of the 2014 conference tournament by East Carolina.

He will assume responsibilities as associate head coach on Mike Smith's new staff at Ole Miss. Smith will enter his first season at the helm of the Rebels, having been hired last month.

Interesting and of note is that not only has Schumann resigned his post, but so have his entire coaching staff, which included Gator Rebhan; former NPF pitcher Sharon Palma; and Olympic great Kelly Kretschman. All three assistants were in their first year at the school.

At least one member of Schumann's now-former staff already has a new job lined up, with an official announcement expected in short order.

No word yet on a time frame or potential candidates for the Panthers' HC position.
