2014 Team USA Roster Announced

The 2014 Team USA roster was announced last week. The turnover rate is around 50% from the 2013 team. Several players had to bow out due to injury, including Oklahoma slugger Lauren Chamberlain who did not even attend the tryout camp due to injuries.

After some slightly-confusing additions and subtractions from the tryouts in Lynchburg, Virginia, twenty-four athletes vied for the seventeen available spots on the National Team's roster.

When the final roster was announced, there really were not any major surprises being added to the squad. Sam Fischer returns to the red, white, and blue after an incredibly-disappointing 2013 tryout, and 2014 standouts Jaclyn Traina and Kelsey Stewart also are on the roster.

There were some significant surprises on the omission side of things... Rhea Taylor's name was not on the final roster for the first time since 2011. According to reports, Aimee Creger and Amber Freeman, both of whom were expected to make the team, were limited by injuries. 2013 star slugger Nicole Hudson, 2014 National College Pitcher of the Year Lacey Waldrop, and Oregon's Cheridan Hawkins, also a member of the 2013 squad, were also among the final cuts.

The full 17-member roster includes the following players; graduating years in parentheses: Valerie Arioto (2012); Raven Chavanne (2013); Amanda Chidester (2012); Sam Fischer (2012); Kellie Fox (2015); Lauren Gibson (2013); Jolene Henderson (2013); Taylor Hoagland (2013); Destinee Martinez (2014); Haylie McCleney (2016); Jessica Moore (2013); Michelle Moultrie (2012); Sara Nevins (2014); Jessica Plaza (2016); Kelsey Stewart (2016); Jaclyn Traina (2014); Hallie Wilson (2015).

The team is coached by Ken Eriksen, the head coach at South Florida. He is assisted by Laura Berg (HC, Oregon State); Howard Dobson (AC, LSU); and Lisa Dodd (HC, UNLV).
