EXCLUSIVE: Rachel Hanson to be Named Stanford Head Softball Coach

Sources with knowledge of the negotiations have told JWOS that the Stanford Cardinal have found their new head softball coach in Dartmouth's Rachel Hanson. A timetable for an official announcement is as-yet unknown.

Hanson comes to Stanford after four years at the helm of the Dartmouth Big Green program. She boasts eighty-eight wins during her tenure in Hanover, but only two seasons where her team finished above the .500 mark. The 2014 campaign was her best yet as a coach, as her squad posted a 31-19 record, including an 18-2 mark in conference play.

Prior to coming to Dartmouth, Hanson spent five seasons as head coach at the University of Dallas. She posted an 80-87 mark there, with the victories mark setting a school record for wins by a softball head coach.

At Stanford, Hanson will replace John Rittman, who retired following the 2014 season after eighteen years at the helm of the Cardinal. Rittman led his team to a 30-25 record in 2014, to go along with an eighth-place (second to last) finish in the PAC-12 conference.
