Division 2 Top 50 PotY 'Watch List' Released

The first-ever Division 2 Top 50 player watch-list was released on Monday; the award is in its inaugural season of existence and will be awarded to the person named Player of the Year on May 26th.

The award’s finalist-selection process mirrors that of its Division 1 counterpart. The watch list consists of fifty names, then a list of twenty-five finalists will be released in early April. The finalists will continue to be whittled down, first to ten, then to three, before the winner is announced.

Defending national champion West Texas A&M landed three players on the list, second only to Caldwell, which placed five. Seven other schools were represented by two players on the list.

One name on the list that should be particularly familiar to our readers is that of Morgan Foley. The UIndy pitcher set an all-levels record last season when she recorded thirty strikeouts in a single game. She was named D2 Pitcher of the Year and a consensus first-team All-American last season, and should be an early favorite for this award.

60% of the list is made up of seniors; thirty soon-to-be graduates are listed, along with thirteen juniors and seven sophomores.

The full list of players on the watch list follows. You can click here to view the list w/ headshots of each player.
