Anything Can Happen Thursday: Robert Morris Volleyball & St. Baldrick's

The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a cause close to my heart. I thoroughly believe in their mission, their methods, and the progress they've made in fighting childhood cancer. I even shaved my head for the cause!

Today, the Robert Morris University men's volleyball team, led by head coach Lauren Joyce Hensel, are putting on their third-annual St. Baldrick's event. Having raised just over $10,000 the last two years, they've set that number as their fundraising goal for this year alone. At press time, they were more than 70% to their goal - with just over one week of planning!

Coach Hensel, a firm believer in leading by example, organizes the event and shaves her head yearly. As she goes under the clippers, she does so in memory of a special young lady, Erin Potts, who succumbed to Ewing's sarcoma at the age of 18.

Professional men's soccer player Gordy Gurson will also be stopping in and shaving his head at the event.

If you're interested in donating or attending the event, you can find all the pertinent information here.

Anything Can Happen Thursday is a new series that will involve non-softball sports stories. The series will recur on a semi-regular basis.
