Where Are They Now: Katie Burkhart

Who is she? Katie Burkhart Gooch, a former All-American pitcher for the Arizona State Sun Devils and a longtime NPF star for the USSSA Pride, Tennessee Diamonds, and Carolina Diamonds.

What is she known for? Burkhart is one of the best to ever put on a PAC-12-affiliated uniform, and in such a historically-talented conference, that's saying something pretty impressive. She was a two-time first-team All-American in her junior and senior seasons, and was drafted #1 overall in 2008 NPF draft. She led the Sun Devils to the national championship later that same year, before joining the NPF and taking home Player of the Year honors in her rookie season.

Here's something interesting... Katie has a creative writing degree, and has dabbled in many different writing styles, including poetry and songs.

What's she up to now? Katie is currently running her instructional business called "Pitch Responsibly". In a short time, though, that moniker will become "Play Responsibly" to encompass more aspects of the game and not just pitching. "Eventually, I'd like it to become an actual summer camp for softball players that want to learn the game and have a blast," Katie says. "Incorporating life skills, mentorship, and skill sets." Their first camp is already in line for this summer, and will include several of Katie's former ASU teammates. You can find more information about it on their website here.
