News Roundup

Thanks to my weekend travels the last two weeks, it's been quite a while since we published a Roundup. Let's catch you up on some news & no-nos from the last few weeks:

  • USC-Upstate senior Shellie Robinson set the new school single-season home record.
  • Villanova head coach Maria DiBernardi was inducted into her high school alma mater's Hall of Fame.
  • Sara Tucholsky, known best for this famous moment (she's the hitter), celebrated her nuptials.
  • Samford head coach Mandy Burford earned her 100th career win.
  • Thanks to an ejection in a midweek game, per SEC rules, Missouri head coach Ehren Earleywine had to serve a one-game procedural suspension in the 1st game of his team's weekend series against Florida. Assistant coach Pete D'Amour led the team in Earleywine's absence.
  • The St. Joseph's school administration cancelled the remainder of the team's season and a potential appearance in the conference tournament due to allegations of hazing.
  • Arkansas senior Devon Wallace, drafted #20 overall in this year's NPF Draft, will not play at the professional level, opting instead to begin her career in the nursing field.
  • North Carolina State head coach Shawn Rychcik earned his 100th career win. Coincidentally, the milestone also happened to occur in the same game that senior pitcher Emily Weiman earned her 100th career victory, as well.
  • George Washington senior Victoria Valos set the school's career hits record, putting her name atop the eighth category in the Colonials' record books.
  • North Carolina State senior shortstop Renada Davis set the ACC career home run record.
  • Former Houston Cougars great & current Akron Racers catcher Haley Outon had her #10 jersey retired at her alma mater, Pflugerville High School.
  • Missouri senior first baseman Kelsea Roth set a new school record for putouts last week. The new number, which has since grown, was 1,267.
  • McNeese State senior Lauren Langner set the program's new career hits record.
  • Nebraska great Peaches James was inducted into the Omaha Sports Hall of Fame.
  • Florida State senior hurler Lacey Waldrop set the program's new career wins mark.
  • George Washington freshman set the school's new single-season wins record.
  • Oregon senior Janie Takeda set the school's new career career runs mark.
  • Fordham head coach Bridget Orchard earned her 500th career win.
  • Central Arkansas' Jessie Taylor set the program's single-season RBI record.
  • Oklahoma freshman pitcher Paige Parker recorded her 4th perfect game of the season, tying the all-time single-season record. She is only the 16th player in NCAA history to throw at least four perfect games in a career and yes, she's just a freshman.
  • D2: UIndy senior Taylor Russell set the school's all-time home run record with her 43rd.
