Oklahoma State has fired head softball coach Rich Wieligman, the university announced on Tuesday.
Wieligman has been at the helm of the Cowgirls program since 2007, during which time he amassed a 272-224 record. However, included in that number are two forty-win seasons in 2010 and 2011; since 2011, the Cowgirls were 102-111.
The Cowgirls ended their 2015 season with a 21-31 record, including just three wins in conference play. The program saw senior Shelby Davis taken in the NPF College Draft in April.
Athletic director Mike Holder was quoted as saying that the Cowgirls program "has lost its momentum" and that it is "time we move in another direction".
The Cowgirls finished sixth in the seven-team Big 12 this season.
