Former Auburn head coach and the first-ever softball coach in school history Tina Deese was named head coach of the Opelika (AL) High School softball program on Wednesday. She will also teach physical education at
the middle school level.
Deese coached the Tigers for seventeen seasons, amassing a record of 774-730-1 with nine regional appearances. The team never advanced past the regional round or to a Super regional during her tenure.
After her firing from AU, Deese took a position at Beauregard High School, also in the Auburn area. At Beauregard, she served as an assistant on the softball coaching staff, taught P.E., and worked as a volleyball coach.
Deese replaces a sixteen-year veteran coach at Opelika HS, and takes the reins of a team that finished the season at .500 with a 20-20 record and were eliminated in the Class 6A, Area 4 tournament.
