|Didn't see this one too often - Mack at the plate!|
Here's something interesting... While at LSU, Brittany founded an organization called Geaux Play. Geaux Play enables mentally- and physically-disabled children to participate in sports and allows them a chance to escape their fears and simply have fun! The organization was begun in 2012, and "Geaux Play Day" has become an annual tradition at Tiger Park, and has even expanded to other SEC softball programs that have run with the idea to help their own communities.
Quotable quote: "I miss the energy and excitement the most. The feeling I got before every game was indescribable! Adrenaline is through the roof, the fans are cheering loudly, and I just feel on top of the world! And of course, there was always the fist pumps to go with every game. I swear, almost every picture taken of me was my fist pumping with mouth wide open. Not very attractive pictures, but they all definitely show my love for the game! Watching from the sidelines just isn't the same, but I guarantee I will never be able to leave the game of softball."
What's she up to now? Now Mrs. Brittany Mack Oakes following her wedding last spring, Brittany is working towards getting her doctorate in physical therapy. Though injuries forced her retirement from playing softball, she has not left the game behind, as she continues to give pitching lessons, coach with several travel teams, and dabbles in the world of broadcasting, having worked games in the booth for Cox, CSS, and Fox.
