Arizona Honors Mike Candrea's 30 Years

One of the names almost synonymous with the game of softball today is undoubtedly that of Mike Candrea. Whether you know him for his time as skipper of Team USA or his decades at the helm of the Arizona Wildcats, when you think of the all-time great softball coaches, Candrea's name either heads the list or is among the short list.

At their annual alumni weekend and Homecoming this past weekend, the Wildcats softball program honored their longtime skipper for his years of service. Just one look at this graphic gives a brief overview of the highlights of Candrea's illustrious tenure at the U of A:

Let's just take a look at a few of those notes there:
- 8 National Championships (that's the most of any coach)
- 1,428 Career Victories (4th all-time)
- Most Division 1 victories in softball history
- 21 Women's College World Series appearances
- 94 All-Americans
- Two Olympic medals
- 8-time PAC Coach of the Year
- 5-time National Coach of the Year

The Arizona program has historically been filled with incredible talent, talent that has gone on to play at every level of the game, including internationally and professionally. Candrea's program has seen the likes of Jennie Finch, Alicia Hollowell, and Caitlin Lowe suit up in a Wildcats uniform, and he continues to recruit top-level talent.
