The Houston Cougars have promoted associate head softball coach Kristin Vesely to fill the program's head coaching vacancy, the school announced this week.
Vesely spent six years on Kyla Holas' staff with the Cougars, including the last three as associate head coach, and was long thought to be a favorite for the position of head coach following Holas' resignation.
Houston is Vesely's only career coaching stop, though she did coach at the travel ball & high school levels following her playing career.
As a player, Vesely was twice named an all-American at Oklahoma where she earned all-conference honors in all four of her seasons as a Sooner and graduated as the school's all-time hits leader. She also played four seasons on the Sooner soccer team.
Vesely takes over a program that went 27-29 in 2016, including a .500 record in conference play. The Cougars have not reached the NCAA tournament since 2014 but did reach the Super Regional for the second time in their history in 2011.
