Kent State Retains Eric Oakley

Kent State has elected to retain interim head coach Eric Oakley, removing his interim title and making him the sixth coach in program history.

Eric Oakley
Oakley assumed the reins of the program following Karen Linder's retirement last fall and led the Golden Flashes to a regular-season conference title. Despite his interim status, Oakley was named the conference's Coach of the Year after the season.

Under Oakley's guidance, the Golden Flashes posted an overall record of 37-22 during the 2016 season, including a 16-7 mark in conference play. Prior to being named interim head coach, he was the program's pitching coach for one season.

Prior to joining the Golden Flashes program, Oakley served as head coach at North Dakota, overseeing the program's move to Division 1. He also served for five seasons, including one as interim head coach, at Eastern Michigan to begin his career.

His 2017 squad returns star slugger Maddy Grimm (.327/.738/.449 in 2016 w/ eighteen home runs); breakout star Holly Speers; and ace Ronnie Ladines.
