Virginia Hires Joanna Hardin as Head Coach

The University of Virginia has hired former McNeese State head coach Joanna Hardin to lead the Cavalier softball program.

Hardin spent two seasons at the helm of the McNeese program, putting together a 79-34 record and taking home the Southland Conference crown in 2016.

Prior to becoming head coach at McNeese, Hardin served for two years as a Cowgirl assistant under then-head coach Mike Smith. Her resume also includes a stop as assistant coach at Liberty University.

Hardin's Cowgirls posted a 43-14 record in the 2016 season, including a 23-4 mark in conference play. Her squad took home both the regular-season and conference tournament crowns, earning a berth in the NCAA tournament.

She takes over a UVA program that posted an 18-33 record this season, and posted a 7-14 mark in ACC play, finishing ninth in the conference standings.
