Exclusive: Linda Garza Hired as Fresno State Head Coach

UPDATE 7/5/16 19:44 --- Fresno State athletics director Jim Bartko and the school have formally announced Garza's hiring.

Fresno State has elected to hire UC-Riverside head coach Linda Garza to the Bulldogs' similar position, sources have told Justin's World.

Garza spent four seasons at UC-Riverside, amassing a 114-105-1 record including a 32-22-1 record in 2016. A victory over the Big 12's Kansas highlighted the most recent campaign.

Garza's teams finished fifteen and eight games under .500, respectively, in her first two seasons in Riverside, improving to twenty-two and ten games over the mark in her latter pair of campaigns.

At Fresno, Garza fills the shoes of Trisha Ford, who left for the head coach position at Arizona State. The Bulldogs took home the Mountain West conference title this season and earned their second-straight NCAA tournament appearance. The squad posted a 9-6-1 record against Power Five opponents, including a .500 record in five games against PAC-12 programs.

In addition to UC-Riverside, Garza's resume includes stops at Cal Poly, Purdue, Tulsa, Arkansas, UNLV, and a single-season stint as head coach at Wright State.

  1. Why this hire? Little post-season experience. No experience at top-level programs (hardly Purdue) either playing or coaching. How much is it worth that she is a local gal? Concerns!
