North Carolina Central has hired Vashion Johnson as the program's new head coach.
This will be Johnson's third position in three tenures on the Lady Eagles coaching staff. He previously served as an assistant coach from 2014-15 and as a volunteer assistant coach from 2000-01.
Johnson's resume also includes an eight-year stint as head coach at Division II Slippery Rock, as well as stops as an assistant coach at Presbyterian College; Montreat College; North Carolina AT&T State; and Florida A&M.
A former US Marine and a veteran of Desert Storm, Johnson takes over an NCCU program that posted an 8-42 record in 2016, including just two victories in conference play. The squad did enjoy a double-header sweep of the Sun Belt's Appalachian State to end the '16 campaign.
