Where Are They Now: Shelby Burchell

Who is she? Shelby Burchell, a former slugger and utility player for the Tennessee Lady  Vols.

What is she known for? Burchell gained a spot in Lady Vol lore thanks to her clutch hitting, including a walk-off extra-inning home run to take home the SEC Tournament Championship in 2011. Burchell hit twenty-seven home runs in her Lady Vol career and played more than a quartet of defensive positions.

Here's something interesting... Shelby's uncle is Christian musician and worship leader Travis Cottrell. In a more Sheldon Cooper-esque frame of mind, Shelby says she doesn’t like any different foods to touch one another on her plate and must eat just one thing at a time.

Quotable quote: “No matter what adversity you face on or off the field, DO NOT give up. Always persevere and be there for your teammates. You will go through more with them than anyone in your life… they are who you lean on at the end of the day. Be a good teammate and always fight with and for them.”

What's she up to now? Since graduating in 2012, Burchell is in her third year of coaching the 18u team within the Fury Platinum organization. She gives upwards of eighty individual lessons weekly. In addition, she’s the Director of Communications and Staffing for Connect Sports, a Chattanooga-based tournament group and the Programs and Facility Director of Connect Training Center, an all-inclusive training center also in Chattanooga.
