Kemp was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in August of 2016, and the GoFundMe account set up by her family brought in nearly $130,000 in donations, many of the sport's biggest and greatest names among the contributors.

Formerly a member of the Stratford Brakettes, Kemp was beaned in the head with a pitch during a game in July of last year; after experiencing issues with balance and dizziness, among other symptoms, an MRI revealed the brain tumor.

Kemp appeared in twenty-eight games for the Stony Brook Seawolves in her freshman season of 2016, starting sixteen of them. She gathered seven hits, including four extra-base knocks, and three stolen bases.

Arrangements are currently pending. Kemp was just nineteen years old, and would have turned twenty in May.
