Marist's Claire Oberdorf May Be Out for Season

Here's a news bulletin that is a couple of weeks old, but will have a significant impact on the MAAC conference race: Marist dual-threat star Claire Oberdorf is expected to miss the remainder of the softball season after sustaining an injury in the final basketball game of the year.

Oberdorf has made headlines - and was featured on this site - for her two-sport prowess, walking onto the Red Foxes women's basketball team as a freshman and turning into an indispensable player both on the court and on the diamond for the Marist athletics program.

The injury was to Oberdorf's left knee, though the extent of it was not immediately known and Marist athletics did not immediately return a request for comment.

Oberdorf was named the MAAC Rookie of the Year in 2016, also earning notoriety toward Player of the Year honors, and helped lead her team to a conference championship and NCAA tournament berth.

Oberdorf has been named the MAAC's co-Preseason Player of the Year before the season began, but her chances of even stepping on the field this season are now in serious limbo and doubt. It will undoubtedly be a significant loss for the Red Foxes.
