The 2017 JWOS All-Freshman team has been announced. Consisting of fifteen of the finest first-year players in the nation, the team of rookie all-stars is the only honor of its kind bestowed solely upon first-year players nationwide.
The fifteen-member roster includes three pitchers, one catcher, four infielders, and three outfielders, all named to the team at their respective positions, as well as one utility player and three at-large selections, from any on-field position.
The PAC-12 led all conferences with five selections to the team, while the Big 12 placed two players on the roster with the SEC, Big Ten, Atlantic 10, WAC, MEAC, ASun, Conference USA, and ACC all placing a single representative on the team.
Just 2/3 of the players nominated to the all-star rookie roster come from Power Five schools, while thirteen of the fifteen teams represented placed a player on the all-freshman team for the first time ever.
UCLA pitcher Rachel Garcia, who earned both JWOS and NFCA Freshman of the Year honors, leads the group that also includes her fellow finalists for the NFCA award, Kendyl Lindaman and Maggie Balint, of Minnesota and Oregon, respectively.
