Georgia Southern Hires Kim Dean

Georgia Southern has announced Kim Dean as the program's new head softball coach.

Kim Dean
Dean, who most recently spent a single season as the head coach at Armstrong State at the Division II level, will replace Annie Smith, who was fired earlier this offseason.

Armstrong State is being absorbed into Georgia Southern and the Pirates' 2017 softball team that Dean coached was the last athletic team to compete in program history.

Dean led the Pirates to a 38-14 overall record in 2017, including a postseason run that included a win in the regional round that was followed by a Super Regional sweep of North Georgia in a road series to reach the Division 2 national championship tournament, where the Pirates reached the tournament semifinals before being eliminated.

Armstrong State was Dean's first-ever head coaching position; her resume also includes assistant coaching stops at Southern Indiana and her alma mater, Wisconsin-Parkside.

Georgia Southern was 24-29 in 2017 including a 12-15 mark in conference play and finished the season by being eliminated in the first round of the Sun Belt tournament.
