The defending Patriot League champion Lehigh Mountain Hawks have made a change on their coaching staff, adding Fordham grad and acclaimed sportswriter Kayla Lombardo to their staff.

Lombardo, who graduated from Fordham in 2015 after a four-year playing career during which she earned two all-conference and all-region honors, has no coaching experience. Lombardo began her journalism career before her collegiate career ended, chronicling her own experiences as a collegiate athlete.
Following her collegiate career’s end, Lombardo worked for Sports Illustrated before landing at her current position at Excelle Sports, where she writes about softball and women’s athletics in general. She will continue in a part-time role at the media site as a contributor, in addition to her coaching duties.
The hole on the Mountain Hawks staff was created when Michelle Prong departed the program to pursue a career as a physician.
Lehigh finished the 2017 season with a 36-20 record and the Patriot League championship, giving them the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
