Perniciaro spent three seasons at Indiana as an assistant coach under Michelle Gardner, and was briefly the program’s interim head coach following Gardner’s departure earlier this year and prior to the hiring of Shonda Stanton at IU.

Far from a rookie coach, Perniciaro has more than two decades of coaching experience to Indiana State, including a three-year stint as associate head coach at Ole Miss prior to Indiana, as well as stops at Georgia and Auburn. His resume as a head coach includes six years at Wichita State and a single season at Northwestern State.

At Indiana State, Perniciaro replaces Tori Magner, who served as the program's interim head coach through the season's final two months after Shane Bouman was relieved of his duties in March.

The Sycamores ended the 2017 season with a record of 24-29 and failed to make the Missouri Valley conference tournament.
