Rider has hired Davon Ortega as the program’s new head softball coach, the school announced. Ortega is the sixth head coach in program history and replaces Jaclyn Timko-Gabelt at the program’s helm.
Ortega had been the head coach at Division II Holy Family for seven seasons, compiling a 162-147 win-loss record.
The 2017 season saw Ortega’s squad put together their fourth consecutive winning season, amassing a 28-20 record in the circle and a 19-7 mark in conference play. The nineteen conference victories tied with the 2016 squad for the program’s best number under Ortega’s leadership.
In addition to her time at Holy Family, Ortega’s resume includes a head coaching stint at Penn State-Abington College and two years as an assistant at Drexel.
As a player, Ortega spent four season as an infield starter for Lehigh and helped lead the program to their first-ever Division One regional berth.
