Former baseball coach Aric Thomas has joined the Florida softball staff. He replaces Sharonda McDonald, who spent two seasons as the Gators’ hitting coach.

Thomas follows the mold of several coaches, including Kenny Gajewski, who have adorned the Gators’ coaching roster in recent years, as former baseball instructors making the switch to the other side of the diamond.
Most recently, Thomas spent four years at Tennessee as the program’s baseball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. His resume includes multiple stints on the OU baseball staff, as well as time spent as the head coach for the Peninsula Oilers in the Alaska Baseball League, as well as Eastern Oklahoma State College.
During his time at Eastern Oklahoma, Thomas also served as an assistant athletic director for three years and as athletic director for three.
Similarly in the mold of Gajewski, Thomas is a former teammate of Walton’s, as both were on the 1994 and 1995 Oklahoma baseball rosters. The Sooners advanced to the College World Series in both years, taking home the national championship in ‘94.
The position with the Gators is Thomas’ first in the softball realm.
