Appalachian State first-year head coach Shelly Hoerner has added Alex Hupp to her coaching staff.
Hupp will be the Mountaineers pitching coach, as she makes a lateral move from Sun Belt Conference foe Troy. Hupp spent two seasons at Troy, leading a pitching staff that accumulated a 3.97 team ERA in 2017, as well as an opponent's batting average of .280.
In addition to Troy, Hupp's coaching resume includes stints as an assistant at East Tennessee State, South Dakota State, and Emporia State. She also served as interim head coach at South Dakota State in 2014.
A Nebraska alum, Hupp both pitched and hit for the Huskers, finishg her c areer with fifty-eight appearances in the circle and 239 career at-bats.
She joins a Mountaineers program that amassed a 14-34 record in 2017 and a pitching staff that collected a 3.96 team ERA and will return two of their top three pitchers from a season ago, including Kenzie Longanecker, who led the team with a 2.77 individual ERA and 112 strikeouts in 134 innings of work.
