Kendra Cullum Leaves Tulsa Coaching Staff
Veteran assistant coach Kendra Cullum has left the Hurricane to accept a head coaching position at the high school level in Texarkana, Texas.
The Tulsa Softball Twitter account broke the news on Wednesday, which was later confirmed to JWOS by Cullum in a text message.
The former Houston Cougar has accepted the head coaching position at Liberty Eylau High School in Texarkana and will also teach public speaking at the school. Cullum's father, Rick, is a football coach at the school, as well.
Cullum began her playing career at Kansas before transferring to Houston for the final three seasons of her career. She ranks #2 in NCAA history with eighty-nine hit-by-pitches, just three behind all-time record holder Mariah Gearhart. Following her playing career, Cullum's coaching resume includes single-season stints as an assistant coach at Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, and Tulsa.
The Hurricane finished the 2017 season with a record of 41-17 and a 15-3 conference record. The season included victories over Cal, Arkansas, LSU, and two wins each over Kansas and Oklahoma State. The squad took home the American conference championship and found themselves in the winner's bracket of the Norman regional, losing twice to Oklahoma to end their season.
