Tarter Named Assistant Coach at Evansville

Fresh off of earning Summit League Coach of the Year honors, Heather Tarter has been named an assistant coach at Evansville.

Tarter served as Interim Head Coach for IUPUI in 2017, having been hired in the fall of 2016 following the sudden resignation of Amanda Rivera. Moving up from Purdue Calumet of the NAIA, Tarter led the Jaguars to the regular-season conference title and #1 conference tournament seed.

Tarter confirmed to JWOS that she did not interview for the head coaching position following the season, but elected not to do so and left the program before that process began.

In addition to her lone season at IUPUI, Tarter spent three seasons at Purdue Calumet, as well as four years as an assistant at Parkland College, a junior college in the NJCAA.

At Evansville, Tarter joins a program that went 20-33 in 2017, including 11-15 in Missouri Valley conference play. She returns to a "neck of the woods" where she is very familiar, having spent the last two seasons of her career and graduating from Northern Iowa.

A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that Tarter had interviewed for the full-time IUPUI position after the season. That was not the case. We regret the error.
