Marissa Young has once-again filled out her coaching staff at Duke, adding Lacey Waldrop as the Blue Devils pitching coach.
Waldrop, a former National Player of the Year as a Florida State Seminole, returns to familiar country in the ACC with the first full-time coaching position of her career. She spent the 2017 season as a graduate student manager at Oklahoma, where she was part of the championship-winning Sooners club.
As a player, Waldrop twice earned the ACC Pitcher of the Year trophy and was named National Player of the Year in 2014. She was three times named an all-American and posted a career Earned Run Average of 1.37, with 917 career strikeouts.
Currently, Waldrop is a member of the Chicago Bandits in the NPF.
At Duke, she joins a program that will field the school’s first-ever softball team in 2018. Young was hired as the Blue Devils head coach in 2015, and has already had to reassemble her coaching staff just months before the fall season begins, a process that the hiring of Waldrop completes.
