Former Barry head coach Danielle Penner has joined the staff at Coastal Carolina.
Penner will hold the title of Associate Head Coach under Kelley Green with the Chanticleers; she takes the position vacated by Ali Ferrari on Green’s staff.
At Barry, Penner collected more than four hundred wins over twelve years at the Division II school, amassing a 404-210 career record and cementing herself as the program’s all-time winningest head coach.
Formerly an assistant coach at Barry and at her alma mater, California-Pennsylvania, the position at CCU is Penner’s first at the Division I level.
An accomplished player, Penner finished her career with a perfect 80-0 conference record, as well as a .906 career winning percentage from the circle and three all-American honors. Penner was named the Division II National Player of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year in 1998.
Coastal Carolina, in the program’s first season in Sun Belt conference competition, finished the 2017 season with a 32-23 record with a 10-16 mark in conference play. The Chanticleers finished eighth of ten teams in the conference standings and were eliminated in the opening round of the conference tournament.
