Shane Showalter Joins Appalachian State Coaching Staff

Former Austin Peay head coach Shane Showalter has been named the new assistant coach at Appalachian State.

Showalter spent two seasons as the APSU head coach, collecting a record of 26-69 during his tenure. He spent five years with the Governors program, including three years as an assistant prior to his stint as head coach.

Prior to Austin Peay, Showalter was the head coach at Colorado State-Pueblo, where he set the school’s all-time wins mark. He earned conference Coach of the Year honors in 2012 while with the ThunderWolves.

Showalter’s coaching resume also includes a stint as head coach at Colorado College and as an assistant coach at Adams State, his alma mater. He also has been head coach of the Greek National team.

At Appalachian State, Showalter joins Hoerner’s staff for her inaugural season leading the Mountaineers. An interesting note: With the addition of Showalter, each member of Hoerner’s staff has previous head coaching experience. Pitching coach Alex Hupp was formerly interim head coach at South Dakota State in 2014.
